Welcome back to my blog – today I want to introduce ANAKENA to you, a new and one-woman lead business that wants to bring the ingredients and the feeling of the Easter Islands to you. I can only recommend to you to look that up and then you’ll know which feeling that is 😉
Petra, the owner, personally visits the Easter Islands regularly and so she is able to encapsulate this feeling in her products. The range is still quite small but that does not bother me. The range contains a body lotion, a face cream, a shower gel and the Monoi de Tahiti oil that I want to show you today. I have chosen this product because it has the cleanest ingredients for me and is multi purpose as I can use it for my body and hair.
The oil is made from Cocos Nucifera Oil, Gardenia Taitensis Flower, Parfum, Tocopherol, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Farnesol, Limonene, Linalool
The scent of the product originates from the Gardenia flower which is a unique and intensly smelling flower grown on the Easter Islands. The flowers are submersed in the coconut oil for 12 days and as a proof of that, one flower is still in your very own Monoi de Tahiti bottle (see picture).
The glass bottle the oil comes in has it’s pros and cons. Of course, the battle between sustainability from plastic packaging to glass packaging hasn’t been fought to an end but I personally always prefer glass. As the oil hardens at room temperature it is even neccessary to have a glass bottle because you need to warm the bottle in a water bath to make the oil liquid and usable again. Of course you can also scoop it out of the bottle with a tiny spatula and let it melt on your skin but having a liquid to work with is sometimes easier. The glass bottle will also always be a little oily to the touch and that’s what you can probably see in my pictures aswell, but that’s just a cosmetic issue.
I am using this oil to make my body smell like holiday after the shower or when I want my hair ends to look put together and not frizzy. A special treatment with this oil is when you heat it up and use the warm drops of oil for a massage on the back. But according to Petra, there are like a million uses to this oil and I bet she will gladly talk to you about it personally.
I hope I was able to make you feel curious about the brand, let me know in the comments or on Instagram what you think of it!
